Do this
- Batteries: the cold halves them. Spares in an inside pocket, against your body. Swap a 'dead' battery for a warm one and the dead one recovers.
- Coming indoors: seal the camera in a ziplock bag first, or leave it in the closed bag for half an hour. Otherwise it fogs inside and out.
- Gloves: the touchscreen won't work. Use the viewfinder, the dial and the cross keys — everything in the lessons works without touching the screen.
- The 100-400 mostly stays home. Sea eagles at Falsterbo and deer at dusk are the exceptions.
If it goes wrong
- Camera won't turn on in the cold
- Battery. Warm one in, cold one in your pocket.
